A capsule for the first six months

A small edit, considered.

One of the questions we hear most often: what do I actually need for the first six months. The answer, distilled from the families we spoke to during our research and from the workshops we visited, is shorter than the lists most baby-product sites publish.

The eight

  1. One merino blanket — Wool In Love HOPE or HAPPINESS, cream, 85×95 cm. The blanket that travels from cot to buggy to toddler bed.
  2. One linen swaddle — Linen Tales, in cream or oat. Softens with every wash.
  3. One wooden teether — Wooden Story, finished with botanical oils. The first object the child holds independently.
  4. One merino onesie — Breden, temperature-labelled, mulesing-free. Sleep regulation that synthetics cannot match.
  5. One play mat or foam wedge — Karloova or MeowBaby (curated subset), tones cream and oat.
  6. One step stool for the parent — OakHill, birch plywood, for the nursery corner.
  7. One gift made for the giver — embroidered Wool In Love blanket with the child's name. The thing the grandparents hand over and never forget.
  8. One alpaca scarf for the parent — Alpaka, Tallinn. Worn for ten years after.

What is not on the list

Toys with batteries. Anything in primary colours. Anything that arrived in plastic. The fourth and fifth blanket in matching patterns.
