La golondrina

Lo que vuelve.

La palabra catalana para golondrina es oreneta. El pájaro que vuelve cada primavera al mismo alero de la misma casa. Las familias del Mediterráneo leían el año por ella — cuando volvía la golondrina, la estación había cambiado.

Elegimos el nombre porque las cosas que vendemos están pensadas para hacer lo mismo. Una manta de merino tejida en Viljandi acaba en una prima más pequeña. Una balda de abedul de Riga sostiene los libros de un segundo hijo. Trabajamos con doce talleres familiares entre el Báltico y el Adriático, y guardamos sus nombres en cada página.

HAPPINESS, en una pieza.

Tejido en un solo telar en Viljandi, sur de Estonia, en el taller de Wool In Love — visited last year by the President of the Republic, on a morning the wool was already on the bobbin. Italian and Austrian merino, mulesing-free. Eleven hours from cast-on to finish. One of four heritage patterns kept perpetually: HOPE, LOVE, HAPPINESS, DELIGHT. It is the first piece a grandmother orders, and the last one she lets go of.

  1. We work birch by hand in the workshop outside Riga. A book display takes two days to finish; the wood tells you when it is ready. We do not rush it.
